Accessiblity Statement
Our Commitment to Accessibility
The International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA and to continually improve the user experience for everyone.
Measures We Take to Support Accessibility:
- Integrate accessibility requirements into organisational policies, procurement, and project planning.
- Assign clear accessibility roles and responsibilities within our web and communications teams.
- Provide ongoing accessibility training for developers, designers, and content authors.
- Allocate budget and time for regular accessibility audits and remediation.
- Include users with disabilities in our user testing process.
Conformance Status
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Partial conformance means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the accessibility standard. We are actively working toward full conformance and prioritising any critical issues identified.
Known Accessibility Issues:
- PDF and legacy documents: Some older PDFs are not fully tagged for screen reader use. We are converting or replacing these files.
- Third party embeds: Certain third party widgets (e.g., social media feeds) may have limited keyboard support. We are liaising with vendors or providing accessible alternatives.
- Colour contrast: A small number of decorative elements fall below the recommended contrast ratio and are scheduled for redesign.
If you find an issue not listed above, please let us know so we can address it.
Feedback & Contact Information
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of the ICEVI website.
If you encounter barriers, need information in an alternative format, or wish to suggest an improvement, please contact us, email: info@icevi.org
We aim to acknowledge all accessibility feedback within 2 business days and provide a resolution or timeline within 10 business days.
Compatibility with Browsers & Assistive Technology
The ICEVI website is designed to be compatible with:
- Modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) released in the past two years
- Screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver
- Mobile screen readers such as TalkBack and VoiceOver iOS
- The site may not function optimally in Internet Explorer 11 or earlier.
Technical Specifications
Accessibility of the ICEVI website relies on the following technologies:
- HTML 5 and ARIA 1.2 for semantic markup and programmatic relationships
- CSS 3 for visual presentation
- JavaScript (Elementor and WordPress core) for interactive components
- WAI ARIA landmarks, roles, and properties to enhance assistive technology support
These technologies are relied upon for conformance with the accessibility standards used.
Assessment Approach
ICEVI assesses accessibility through:
- Automated audits using tools such as axe DevTools, WAVE, and Lighthouse
- Manual keyboard and screen reader testing (NVDA & VoiceOver)
- Periodic third party expert reviews (next full audit scheduled Q4 2025)
Continuous Improvement
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We conduct quarterly reviews, resolve identified issues, and monitor new content to ensure continuous compliance. We also strive to incorporate feedback from users with disabilities in future updates.
